Oh me! Oh my! Will ya look at that sky!

This week has been simply amazing with sunsets. Almost every night was an eye wrenching display of colors across the entire horizon. The first night I didn't have my camera with me and my no good daughter wanted me to take her up to the foothills above Provo so she could get a photo with her camera. I did take her but grumbled and griped and took out my frustrations on her leg as I drove. I don't think she bruised, though the child is rather frail.

With that beginning to the weather I vowed to carry my camera every day and I finally got my golden phoenix of a sunset yesterday on the dike road west of the Provo airport.

Wales and Maple Canyon

Last week was fall break for the kids. I took off both days and wanted to go down to a part of the state Liz and I drove through after a wedding down in that area. We had driven through Chester, Wales, Freedom, and Fountain Green and there were lots of rustic buildings and wide open views. Also near Freedom is a canyon my rock climbing neighbors told me about that I wanted to see. So I grabbed Meagan and Amanda and we left before 7am and got home near noon. It's just under an hour drive from home.

This little shack was in the middle of a corral.

This house was on the main road on the corner. Two sides of it were exposed with walls torn away and the morning light made it very interesting.

Aspen Grove

Last week our division went to the Aspen Grove property owned by BYU up behind Timpanogos. Unfortunately the leaves had already changed past their peak but it was still wonderful to get out for an hour or two and enjoy real life. Since the colors were so drab my attention went to other things along the trail.

It had just rained in the morning and luckily the trail wasn't too wet or muddy but it left plenty of evidence behind if you looked carefully.

On the way home, still in the canyon, I saw a hawk sitting on a telephone wire that was just about eye level with my car since the road is raised up so high. I hit the brakes and just missed the entrance to the rest area where I needed to turn off. Nobody was on the road so I went on to the on ramp of the rest area and drove up it the wrong way. (shhh) I walked up as close as I could to Mr. Hawk until he had enough of me and he took off.

Also on the way home, in Salem I saw this wonderful weed growing and made a quick dive to the other side of the road, opened the door, *click*, drove off.

Payson Canyon

I was to go out with my brother to take photos this morning. Us and the dogs. Unfortunately he found himself without a car and couldn't make it. I decided to go up anyway and he didn't miss much. The fall colors have already faded and leaves have fallen quite a bit. I did find a few interesting things and just enjoyed being out in the mountains on a beautiful fall morning.

Photo Blogging

I recently went on a short hike with a couple of co-workers. We each had cameras and were taking pictures. I asked one of them what he did with all his photos and he said he put them up on a photo blog. It sounded like a good idea since people can subscribe to it if they like and get updates when new stuff is up. It also gives an opportunity to describe the photo trip and maybe a little of how the shot was taken.

I think I'll just post representative pictures in the blog itself and a link to a site where more photos can be seen.

Don't expect much in the way of writing. I don't have much to say and the pictures say it so much better than I could.

These photos and many from previous outings can be found here: Shutter Dawg Gallery
